Edited to add in August of 2010: This post by far gets the most hits via Google of all my blog posts. I suppose others are searching to see what $System Unavailable means in their Chase account. It usually means that every Saturday night/Sunday morning Chase is updating their systems. Alas, your account will be able to be seen by late Sunday morning. I still hate Chase though.

I am not encouraged when I log into what is now my Chase account, which used to be my Wamu account until the FDIC seized it and sold it for pennies on the dollar to the powerhungry, greedy Chase....but I digress, and my balances all say "$System Unavailable" this evening. Good to know, I can go to bed at peace with the knowledge that Chase's systems are not available. $System Unavailable is a great amount to have in your bank account.
We bought a new camera! Canon Powershot A1000. It was recommended by several camera websites, and it got 4.5 stars, on average, from Amazon users. Why do we keep using people's recommendations since following recommendations hasn't worked for us the other two times? Should have done digital camera roulette instead.
June is a busy month for family birthdays. As the designated gift giver of the family, I have yet to come up with unique birthday, Christmas and Mother's/Father's Day gifts. Being creative 3x a year per parent is unduly difficult. Maybe it wouldn't be unduly difficult on someone who is more creative than I. But creativity eludes me, and honestly it makes it difficult to get something for Mother's Day and then a few weeks later get something different for her birthday. I like to buy things that I see for someone, but having cemented down gift-giving occasions with date deadlines 3x a year for the same people who have absolutely everything is a mental strain.
The Internet definitely comes in handy. You can lay in bed in your jammies and pick out gifts, type in your little card number, and be done in a couple of minutes. At least theoretically. I had a gift epiphany today, went to Amazon, found a link to a gift website, found what I wanted, got something for the other parent for Father's Day, and had it shipped. In under an hour, MIL's birthday and Father's Day taken care of - except I still have to get cards. But I'm out of stamps, so I have to get those too. After those 2 errands, then I'll be done! Did you know the Dollar Store has cards for 50 cents? That's where I'm going to go from now on for cards.
Spent a lot of money today: gifts, camera, Costco, grocery shopping - all I want to do is make sure I don't have a negative bank balance, and I get $System Unavailable. Guess I'll try again! And yet again, $System Unavailable.

I often get cards at the dollar store as well. The downside, they don't have much selection. So, if you need to get a card for a grandparent from each of your three kids, there are probably only two choices and one is lame. Oh well. They are only 50 cents!
