"Hang in there!"

Have you realized that whenever you post a frustration that there's always someone who says "Hang in there!"? I don't get that colloquialism. There really is no alternative other than saying to heck with everything and hitchhiking to Alaska and living on an abandoned bus. You basically DO have to hang in there if you're a responsible person. It's not a terribly supportive or constructive statement. So why do people say it? I guess it means "so sorry you're in a frustrating position - don't give up on the world and hitchhike to Alaska." If you want to actually be helpful, tell the person they can call you or give them cookies (food makes the world better) or something.

I was just noting that as I was reading other people's statuses. There's always that person that says that. Ugh!

For the record, I will not ever tell you to hang in there. I'll try to pull you up. :)

you are so funny! I am SURE that I have said that before, but I never thought about it that way! I usually just say "I'll pray for you!"

i KNOW i've said that before. i think it means "i hear you and it sounds like you've got it under control - even if it does suck - but let me know if i can help."

from now on i'll try to limit it's use to trapieze artists and rock climbers in your presence. :)

Guilty as charged... I'll have to think of something a little more clever and sincere, eh?
